Jude Law has said he is relieved that the public airing of his past mistakes have allowed him to put his troubles behind him. The 34-year-old actor has endured a tumultuous few years in which he divorced his wife Sadie Frost, got engaged to actress Sienna Miller and then broke up with her after allegations of an affair with his children’s nanny. While he said he had no regrets, he declared it was “kind of wonderful” that his past misdemeanors had been aired at “such a public level.”

He also admitted that he had been an “idiot”. Law and Miller had been one of showbusiness’s “golden couples” before Law’s nanny Daisy Wright told a Sunday tabloid that she slept with him in 2005.

In a frank interview in The Daily Telegraph Law said: “I made mistakes - who hasn’t? I also like to think that because of the scale on which I had to then admit to them, I learnt my lesson and I ain’t going to f***ing do it again.

“I don’t ever want to experience that pain, that upset, that confusion, that humiliation ever again.

“I’m not happy I hurt people, but I’m kind of happy it was on such a public level.

Without directly referring to any of the incidents, he went on: “In a way it was like washing your laundry in public and, yep, there you go, you’ve seen my underwear, you’ve seen all the rubbish, you’ve seen me putting out the trash and now I feel like there’s nothing left, you’ve seen it all and I can get on and in a weird way that’s kind of wonderful.”

The star said he has learned his lesson and never intends to repeat the experience.

He said: “I didn’t try to defend myself, I took it on the chin. I was an idiot, I behaved badly.

“I’ve also been treated badly. It goes both ways.

“I just thought, no more, I’m too old. It’s like hang on, I’m 34. What am I going to do? Keep doing that? Am I an idiot?

Law, who was married for seven years to actress Sadie Frost and had three children with her, met Miss Miller in 2003 on the set of the film Alfie. They became engaged the following Christmas Day.

Miss Frost remained in charge of selecting the nannies for the children and employed Miss Wright in 2004 to look after them at weekends. She and Law allegedly became close while filming in New Orleans in 2005 and ended up in bed together. Miss Wright was sacked when the child told Miss Frost about having seen her in bed with Law.
